How we score an area
Every town, postcode district, postcode sector and address on NestLink carries an Area Quality grade from A+ to C. The grade is the unweighted average of the pillars that actually have published data for that place — never a national average, a model output or a guess.
The scale
Scores run 0-100 and map to letter grades: A+ is 90-100, A is 80-89, B+ is 70-79, B is 60-69, C+ is 50-59 and C is below 50.
A headline grade is published only once at least three of the seven pillars have real figures. Below that threshold the page shows the layers that do exist and marks the rest as unknown.
The seven pillars
Safety, environment, transport, amenities, green space, schools and connectivity. Each pillar is the unweighted mean of its populated layers, so the grade can be reproduced from the numbers shown on the page.
Hazard layers such as flood risk, crime and noise are inverted before they enter a pillar, so a lower hazard reading raises the score.
